David Steer is a contemporary artist and poet living and working in Central Brittany whose work explores themes of memory and identity and, in particular, what it means to be an artist and poet in today’s turbulent and fragmenting world.
David’s linocuts reflect a careful attention to form, pattern, and negative space, often using the medium’s inherent constraints to amplify emotional resonance and storytelling. His printmaking practice is rooted in tradition and experimentation, drawing from a range of influences while forging a distinct visual voice.
In addition to his print work, David creates collage poetry and mixed media pieces that expand on similar themes, building a cohesive body of work that feels both personal and quietly universal.
Art Experience
David has been a committee member of the Association Chaudron des Arts based in Mael Carhaix (22430) since 2021 and has gained experience of organising exhibitions and events and an annual art market.
David’s current project for the Association is the curation and promotion of an exhibition for 2026 entitled ‘Artists on the Frontline’ . This exhibition will feature the work of Ruslan Dubov, an artist from Dnipro, Ukraine and Laima Antanaitiene, from Lithuania. In keeping with David’s vision, the artists were chosen not only because they literally live and work on the frontline but because as artists using AI and digital tools to create their work they are on the frontline of new technology exploring what it means to make art in the 21st century.
